Kate Griffiths MP

"As an MP elected in 2019, I know many people voted for me because they wanted to see a Conservative government led by Boris Johnson; and the Prime Minister was elected with a significant democratic mandate. Since that election, I have been proud to be part of a Government that has achieved so many things; during very difficult times. Delivering Brexit, behind one of the world’s most successful vaccine rollouts, standing up to Putin and now delivering cost of living help during a crisis caused by global inflation and soaring energy prices.

"In Burton and Uttoxeter, the Prime Minister has been incredibly supportive of our efforts to regenerate towns and invest in communities, and we will shortly be submitting an application for further funding under the Prime Minister’s flagship Levelling Up agenda. I want to see that much-needed funding be spent on improving our town centres and providing benefits for residents across the constituency.

"What happened during the Covid pandemic, as detailed in Sue Gray’s report, is unacceptable, and I share the anger felt by many others about the actions of the Prime Minister and his staff. I have made my views on this matter very clear to those that need to know them, and I have spent a lot of time discussing the issue with constituents, and Conservative colleagues. After much consideration, I believe that the Prime Minister and his team have got the big calls right and I do not believe now is the right time for a leadership contest. For that reason, I will be supporting him in today’s vote."
