Burton and Uttoxeter’s Member of Parliament, Kate Kniveton, has congratulated Liz Truss after winning the leadership contest to become the leader of the Conservative Party and the UK’s next Prime Minister.

The result follows a contest between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss with numerous hustings around the country and hundreds of interviews where both candidates where questioned and put through their paces by journalists and Conservative Party members about how they would deliver for the people of the United Kingdom.

Following the announcement, Ms Truss said she would take bold action to get the country through the tough times ahead and give support to families during the cost-of-living crisis.

Commenting, Kate Kniveton MP said:

“I want to congratulate Liz on winning the leadership contest.

“The Conservative Party can be proud of the talented and diverse range of candidates that put themselves forward in this leadership race.

“The parliamentary party must now unite behind the new Prime Minister as we continue to deliver on the people’s priorities that we were all elected on in 2019. I remain focused on delivering for Burton and Uttoxeter, levelling up our town centres, ensuring our streets are safer and securing extra funding for our local schools and NHS.

Critically, we must rise to the challenge of the global pressures families are facing with the cost of living. I know that Liz is focused on tackling this issue and supporting families across the United Kingdom this coming winter.”
